It is bordered by the provinces of Bizkaia and ￃﾁlava, the Autonomous Community of Navarre, the French Department of Pyrￃﾩnￃﾩes-Atlantiques, and the Cantabrian Sea (Bay of Biscay). Its area of 1,980 kmￂﾲ makes it the smallest province in Spain. Its population is 682,977 (2002), of whom about a quarter live in the capital, Donostia-San Sebastiￃﾡn. Other important towns are Irun, Errenteria, Zarautz, Arrasate, Oￃﾱati, Eibar, Tolosa, Beasain, Pasaia.
