Great Baddow is an urban village in the Chelmsford borough of Essex, England. It is close to the county town, Chelmsford, and is one of the largest villages in the Country.
Great Baddow was named after the river Baddow which runs a mile or so east of the village, many will now know the river from its modern name, the Chelmer derived from Chelmsford. At the heart of the old village there are over 30 listed buildings. The village has been the site of a Marconi factory for many years, and major development started in the fifties with the building of the Rothmans Estate for workers at Marconi's and English Electric Valve Company in Chelmsford. During the 1960s the local council had multi-storey housing, shops, and offices built on the Vineyards, a country house turned hotel.. Today, the newly refurbished Vineyards flats are proving to be highly regarded and sought after properties.
Great Baddow has five pubs -- The White Horse, The Blue Lion, The Kings Head, The Beehive and The Star.
