Harry Perry's father was a medical resident studying radiology in Washington, D.C. when he was born there in 1951. In 1953, his father was commissioned as a captain in the U.S. Air Force Medical Corps. His father was required by the government to perform military service because the U.S. military had completely funded his medical education during and after World War II. Consequently, Perry spent his years as a toddler in Fairbanks, Alaska, where his father was the only radiologist at the Eielson Air Force Base during the Korean War.
