In hearts, cards tend to have value to the player holding them in reverse order of rank. Aces, Kings and other face cards are generally of low value because the player holding them risks being forced to take a trick with it, and that trick could include a point or the Queen of Spades. Conversely, cards of low rank, (2,3,4) have high value to the player because they allow the player to attempt to avoid taking a trick, especially a penalty trick.
There are two main exceptions, and their value, one over the other, depends on two house rules; whether the Two of Clubs must be played first, and whether it is legal for a player to play a "point" card on the first trick if that player has "voided Clubs" and cannot follow suit.
