The film was merely distributed by Paramount, and as such, they relinquished rights to the film after initial release. The first VHS release was made by Worldvision Enterprises in 1985 (coincidentally, Paramount's TV division would absorb Worldvision in 1999). Over the years, the rights to Heidi's Song would be owned by whoever was the parent of Hanna-Barbera - at the time of initial video release, it was Taft Broadcasting. Ownership would pass on to Great American Broadcasting in 1987, Turner Broadcasting System in 1991, and finally Time Warner in 1996. The most recent VHS release was made by Turner Home Entertainment in 1998.
