At the end, the boy finally decides to take care of his immediate physical needs and get something to eat. The illustrations are notable for their various nested doorways and walls--representative of the many possibilities that confront each person.
Beyond warning about the perils of indecision, this story offers a powerful image for dealing with the helpless immobilization that can result from overstimulation and too many choices. Note that this applies well to ADHD and depression.
