Into the Moat is an American death metal/technical death metal band from Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. It first achieved national acclaim when profiled in Alternative Press (AP) Magazine (November, 2003). The band has signed with Metal Blade Records, which released both their full-length albums, and has completed four national tours during 2004 and 2005. The band got its start in 2001 as Matthew Gossman's one-man project, who recruited singer Brett Slutsky. Gossman played guitar, bass, and drums on the first demo. Slutsky soon left the band, which became a quartet with the addition of Kit Wray on bass, Steve Walbroehl (since departed) on guitar, Earl Ruwell on vocals, and Gossman on drums. In January 2002 Johannes Naranjo (since departed) joined on bass while Wray moved to guitar. Within a year, the group had recorded their debut EP, Means by Which the End is Justified.
