Ivanovo Industrial Oblast (Ива́новская Промы́шленная о́бласть) was established on January 14, 1929. On March 11, 1936, the oblast was divided into modern Ivanovo Oblast and Yaroslavl Oblast. Ivanovo Oblast borders with Kostroma Oblast (N), Nizhny Novgorod Oblast (E), Vladimir Oblast (S), and Yaroslavl Oblast (W).
