After suffering a defeat from Aku, who during the fight remained high enough for Jack not to reach him, Jack helps a peaceful tribe defend themselves against attacks from a brutish neighboring tribe. Initially, the person he helps is a grown boy, who talks like a child. He is able to jump extremely high, in which Jack asks "You can fly?" he replies "No, jump good". The child's story is that he was being accompanied by his family to work in a factory. However, he escapes and joins the tribe.
In return for defending them against attacks from the neighboring tribe, they promise to teach Jack how to "jump good". The lessons include hard physical labor and jumping and climbing with boulders so that he will feel light and nimble without them.
