During her tenure as mayor, she was elected 3rd vice-president of the Federation of Canadian Municipalities. Some have speculated that had she been re-elected in 2003, she likely would have been elected president of FCM which could have had an effect on the success of FCM's negotiations with the federal government over gas tax revenues.
