J. J. Power is an Irish Green Party politician from Co. Kildare. He was born in Caragh, near Naas in County Kildare and was educated locally at the Christian Brothers School in Naas. His father, Paddy Power, was a Fianna Fáil TD and minister, he also served as an MEP. His brother, Seán Power is also a Fianna Fáil TD and served as Minister of State at the Department of Communications, Energy and Natural Resources from May 2008 to April 2009.
He was formerly chair of Kildare County Council’s County Development Board, chair of the Environmental Strategic Policy Committee and a member of the Finance committee, Corporate Policy Group and the Rural Water Monitoring Committee. On the Naas town council he held the chair of the Protocol Committee as well as serving on the Garda Liaison and Twinning Committees.
