Jo Leinen (born April 6, 1948 in Bisten) is a German Member of the European Parliament. He was elected on the SPD ticket and sits with the Party of European Socialists group. Before his political career he was a practicing lawyer. He was Minister of the Environment in the State of Saarland (1985-1994) then a Member of the Landtag of Saarland until 1999.
