Moorhouse did her HSC year in 1978 at Vermont High School, which is the same high school that Gillian Armstrong attended a few years earlier. She went on to direct films such as Proof, How to Make an American Quilt and A Thousand Acres. She is married to film director P. J. Hogan, and produced his film Muriel's Wedding.
