Deathridge is regarded as one of the world's foremost Wagner experts and a noted authority on Beethoven. He is King Edward VII Professor of Music at King's College London as well as the Head of the prestigious Department of Music at that institution, and has been active as a conductor, organ recitalist and piano accompanist; as a radio and television broadcaster; and as a reviewer for scholarly music journals in Germany and Britain. He was President of the Royal Musical Association from 2005-2008.
He was educated at King Edward's School, Birmingham, and at Lincoln College, Oxford (MA, DPhil) culminating with a dissertation on Wagner's sketches for Rienzi.
