His paternal grandparents were Oscar-winning producer Samuel Goldwyn and Frances Howard. His maternal grandparents were Sidney Howard, a screenwriter, and Clare Eames, an actress. In December 1991, John Goldwyn was named President of Production for Paramount's Motion Picture Group.
