Presently an independent consultant and author, John has published
articles in a broad range of business publications, including the
Harvard Business Review, the Wall Street Journal, and Business 2.0, and
written several books, including "Net Gain" and "Net Worth." His most
recent book, "Out of the Box," published by the Harvard Business School
Press, provides distinctive insights and strategies for CEOs and senior
executives seeking to harness the business value of Web Services and
other next generation software technologies. Prior to writing, John was
a Principal with McKinsey & Company and a Global Leader of
McKinsey's Electronic Commerce Practice and Strategy Practice. At
McKinsey, John spent 16 years working for a broad range of clients
across many industries on e-commerce issues, with a particular focus on

opportunities created by e-commerce and new approaches to strategy
under high uncertainty. Prior to joining McKinsey, John served as
Senior Vice President for Strategic Planning at Atari and as Founder

Digital World. John received his MBA from Harvard Business School and a
