Huston was born in Nevada, Missouri, a son of Canadian-born actor, Walter Huston and his wife Rhea Gore, a sports reporter. Huston was of Scots-Irish descent on his father's side and English and Welsh on his mother's. He was raised by his maternal grandparents, John Marcellus and Adelia (Richardson) Gore.
