Bobo was born in Roosevelt Island, New York to an Orthodox Jewish family. His mother, Denise Raimi, is a physical therapist and personal trainer (she played his character's foster mother in Choke). His first film role was in the 2004 independent film, The Best Thief in the World. He co-starred opposite Christopher Walken and Josh Lucas in the 2004 drama Around the Bend, playing the youngest of a four-generation family. Bobo was subsequently cast in the big-budget fantasy film Zathura, which opened in November 2005 to a disappointing box office, grossing $28 million in the United States.
