José Carlos Pace

José Carlos Pace (October 6, 1944 in São Paulo – March 18, 1977 near São Paulo) was a racing driver from Brazil. José Carlos Pace (October 6, 1944 in São Paulo – March 18, 1977 near São Paulo) was a racing driver from Brazil. He participated in 73 Formula One World Championship Grands Prix, debuting on March 4, 1972. He won one race, achieved six podiums, and scored a total of 58 championship points. He also secured one pole position. He was killed in a light aircraft accident in early 1977, this occurred days after the 1977 South African Grand Prix, in which Tom Pryce was killed after running over Jansen Van Vuuren. The track which currently hosts the Brazilian Grand Prix annually now, as a tribute to him, bears his name, Autódromo José Carlos Pace. Pace is buried in Cemitério do Araça, São Paulo.
