Liebgott's family moved from Germany to the United States. He and his siblings were all sent to a Catholic school to hide their Jewish heritage. They did this because they feared that future generations would be persecuted for being Jewish. He worked mainly as a barber before the war.
As they prepared to jump for the invasion of Normandy, Liebgott and Forrest Guth gave haircuts to the men of the 101st for $0.15 per head. Many of the men either had their heads shaved or got Mohawks.
