According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 15.9 km² (6.1 mi²), all land. Joshua Tree, California is home to Joshua Tree National Park. As of the census of 2009, there were 49,250 people, 12,785 households, and 10,450 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 265.4/km² (687.5/mi²). There were 22,112 housing units at an average density of 133.2/km² (345.1/mi²).
