Recent editors of the journal have been: David D. Buck (University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee) from 1990-1994; Anand A. Yang (University of Utah) from 1995-2000; Ann Waltner (University of Minnesota) from 2001-2004, and Kenneth M. George (University of Wisconsin–Madison), 2005-2008. The current editor is Jeffrey Wasserstrom (University of California-Irvine), from 2008-2012. In addition to the editor, there are associate editors each editor (or sometimes two in cooperation) in charge of one of the following geographic regions: China, Inner Asia, Japan, Korea, South Asia and Southeast Asia.
