After graduating from New York University, she began regularly performing with the Upright Citizens Brigade Theater (UCBT) in New York and Los Angeles. At UCBT, her work included the long-running sketch show "Rode Hard and Put Away Wet", written and performed alongside her comedy partner and best friend Casey Wilson. The successful two-woman stage sketch show went on to become a official selection at HBO's 2005 US Comedy Arts Festival in Aspen, Colorado and also won Raphael & Wilson the ECNY Award for "Best Comedy Duo" in 2005. The duo went on to co-wrote the screenplay for the 2009 film Bride Wars, which they also appeared in with supporting roles.
