Kang's initial appearance was in the Star Trek episode "Day of the Dove" In this episode, Kang, his wife Mara, and 40 of his crew are rescued by the Enterprise from their wrecked ship. An alien force tries to make the Klingons and the Starfleet personnel fight each other. Eventually Captain Kirk found out what was going on, and convinced Kang to stop fighting as well. Realizing the Klingons and the Enterprise crew are no longer willing to be manipulated, the alien force departs. Kang tells the alien force that "only a fool fights in a burning house."
