Karen Hensel (born November 1, 1948) is an American actress. Karen is perhaps best known for the recurring role of Doris Collins, the mother of Sharon Newman, on the American soap opera The Young and the Restless. She has numerous television credits which include guest starring in prime time television, feature films and several stage productions. When she is not acting, she is the Director of Conservatories at South Coast Repertory. She also teaches classical theater at The American Academy of Dramatic Arts.
Hensel's father was in Foreign service, which resulted in her constant traveling across the globe. At 12, her family relocated to Libya, and then to Ethiopia, France, Australia and the Philippines before settling back in California.
