It is the lush, tree-filled home planet of the Wookiees, who live in villages constructed in the trees similar to that of the Ewoks'. Although Kashyyyk is the home world of the character Chewbacca, it is not named or mentioned during the events of original Star Wars trilogy. It was first seen in The Star Wars Holiday Special (1978), as the program's frame story takes place there. The original scripts for Return of the Jedi called for the Second Death Star to be built in orbit around Kashyyyk by Wookiee slave labor. It wasn't until later drafts that the setting and characters were changed to Endor and Ewoks. The planet was more elaborately seen in Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith, in which Jedi Master Yoda goes to Kashyyyk to oversee the battle between the Wookiees and the Droid Army.
