Wynne holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Queen's University, a Master of Arts degree in linguistics from the University of Toronto (1980) and a Master of Education degree in adult education from the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education. She has also completed a Harvard University course in conflict mediation, which was the culmination of five years of training in mediation and conflict resolution. She was a member of the discipline committee of the Ontario Society of Psychotherapists from 1997 to 2000.
