Kim Tae Yong (김태용) was born in 1969 in Seoul, South Korea. Although he initially wanted to pursue writing, he eventually graduated from Yonsei University with a major in Politics and Diplomacy in 1994. He then began studying film after enrolling in the Korean Academy of Film Arts (KAFA) in 1996. Kim was initially attracted to film and theater because he enjoyed the vibrant atmosphere that came with working on a set.
Kim Tae-Yong first became involved in Korean cinema through a friend, who was an assistant director of an independent production. This inspired Kim to begin working on the set and eventually enroll in the KAFA.
