Carmack was a pre-med major at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington, then graduated from the University of Southern California Film School in December 2003. She produced a documentary on legendary surfer and Olympic gold medalist Duke Kahanamoku, and worked as a writer on various screenplays. She's been working in production for the series Deadwood and is currently working for the television show Monk.
She married fellow Hawaiian and former E! and Extra reporter and current HGTV's Small Space, Big Style host Andrew Yani on December 27, 2003. The two divorced in 2004.
