The station went on the air with a MOR format as KFNB (K First National Bank) transmitting from their bank building top downtown in 1962. The station switched calls to KLTE and became adult contemporary "Lite Rock 102" in 1979. The station switched formats to oldies and became "K-Lite 102" in August 1989. In 1991 the station changed call letters to KOQL and became known as "Kool 102." A Clear Channel Communications Tulsa, OK sister station is known as "Kool 106.1." The Twister "touched down" March 11, 1994 with a country format. As of August 2006, it is not a top rated station in Oklahoma City, according to Arbitron 12+ numbers.
