The Kwantlen First Nation is the band government of the Kwantlen subgroup of the Stó:lō people located in the Fraser Valley of British Columbia, Canada, located primarily at Fort Langley. The Kwantlen once resided primarily in villages near present day New Westminster although frequenting many locations along the Lower Fraser as far upstream as a village at Hatzic. The Stave River valley was in particular important for hunting and trapping as well as fishing. They moved their main settlement upriver when Fort Langley was established in the 19th century to control trade and for shelter against attack by the Euclataws and other coastal tribes.
