In accordance with the Constitution of the DPS, the newspaper is run exclusively by McGill students.
Le Délit was created in 1977 to provide a voice for francophone students at McGill University, an English-speaking institution. As of Fall 2003, 19.6% of the student body at McGill had declared French as their mother tongue. The paper is a francophone enclave, itself within an anglophone stronghold established in the second-largest French-speaking city in the world.
