Faced with Sonia's shock, he regrets his mistake and buys the child back at a premium -- but, after being turned away by Sonia, his mounting debts and desperation lead Bruno down a quick path to prison.
L'Enfant won the "Palme d'Or" award in 2005 Cannes Film Festival, making directors Jean-Pierre Dardenne and Luc Dardenne members of the elite club of directors to have won the Palme d'Or twice, having won the award previously in 1999 with Rosetta.
