The race makeup of LUSD is 39% Caucasian, 30% Hispanic, 23% Asian, 7% African-American, and 1% Other. LUSD has 8 high schools, 10 middle schools and 38 elementary school. The three major high schools are Bear Creek HS in north Stockton, Lodi HS in central Lodi and Tokay HS in south Lodi. The 2006-07 year marks the first year of Ronald E. McNair HS as a school. McNair HS is also located in north Stockton. Bill Huyett is the Superintendent and the School Board is staffed by 7 members who must live in their respective regions. Members are elected to four year terms. Serving 350 square miles, LUSD was created in 1967 when voters approved a measure to merge 18 elementary districts and a union high school district.
