In the late 1970s, the House Select Committee on Assassinations concluded on the basis of controversial acoustic evidence and an investigation into Oswald's and Ruby's alleged connections, that President Kennedy was "most likely killed as the result of a conspiracy". This conclusion is also controversial, however.
