On June 1, 2009, Petty was arrested after crashing into a 14-year-old skateboarder in Venice, California. She was found to have had a blood alcohol level higher than 0.08%. She was released on a $100,000 bail.
Petty first became famous for playing Keanu Reeves' surfer girlfriend in the 1991 action thriller Point Break. Prior to that, she got her break starring with Richard Grieco in Fox's Booker.
