Pritchard was born in Worthing, West Sussex in England and also grew up in Clapham, London. His father, musician Bob Pritchard, died when Luke was three years old. He attended Northcote Lodge, Bedales School, the Brit School of Performing Arts and Technology, and Brighton Institute of Modern Music, where he formed The Kooks in 2004 along with bandmates Max Rafferty, Hugh Harris, and Paul Garred.
Pritchard began his music career in a band called Covernote, along with his close friends Thomas Caverley Lightfoot, Brian Slade, James Dampier and Ed Bartlett playing numerous covers and touring the local music scene of Camden, London. Luke has said that he wants to bring music back to the pop world.
