"Manchester Part I" is the 45th episode of The West Wing and was filmed as the third season (2001￢ﾀﾓ2002) premiere. Its originally scheduled broadcast, however, was delayed by the September 11 attacks, and a special non-canon episode, "Isaac and Ishmael", was written and filmed within two weeks of the attacks and broadcast the week before "Manchester Part I" finally aired. President Bartlet wastes no time making his intentions clear regarding seeking reelection ("Yeah. And I'm gonna win.") as the third season begins. Not surprisingly, that is the first question at the press conference that follows his MS disclosure. His answer is a surprise to everybody who thought he would not run, from his staff to the Vice President to his wife. But everyone knows that his predicament will make the reelection campaign exceedingly difficult. Adding to Bartlet's problems is Abbey's reaction to his decision and Haiti's obstreperous dictator.
