"Manchester Part I" is the 45th episode of The West Wing and was filmed as the third season (2001￢ﾀﾓ2002) premiere. Its originally scheduled broadcast, however, was delayed by the September 11 attacks, and a special non-canon episode, "Isaac and Ishmael", was written and filmed within two weeks of the attacks and broadcast the week before "Manchester Part I" finally aired.
