Mara (Sanskrit, also Māra; Tibetan Wylie: bdud; Burmese: မာရ်နတ်), in Buddhism, is the demon that tempted Gautama Buddha by trying to seduce him with the vision of beautiful women who, in various legends, are often said to be Mara's daughters.
