Hayes played opposite Keith Andes in the role of Dorothy Maguire Grevemberg, wife of crusading Louisiana State Police superintendent Francis Grevemberg, in the film Damn Citizen (1958). Gene Evans also co-starred.
With her second husband, producer Herbert B. Swope, Jr., she had a daughter, Tracy Brooks Swope, who is also an actress.
Margaret Hayes died at the age of 60 in Miami Beach, Florida, from liver cancer and hepatitis.
