Brazill and a then-unknown Judd Apatow had heated arguments through e-mail messages on their early career. Brazill claimed that Apatow has stolen his idea for a comedy about a rock band and used it on the The Ben Stiller Show. The sketch was titled "The Grungies", a dark parody of The Monkees television series focusing on an outrageous Grunge band. Brazill compared the sketch with his unaired "Yard Dogs" pilot for MTV then stated that the sketch indeed copied his idea and left a profanity-filled message for Apatow, including him to "Get cancer".
