Upon gaining the position, Gerhard stated in an announcement on the RuneScape website that he wished Jagex to be more open with its customers than the company had been previously; he also reinforced the fact that RuneScape is also aimed at adults, despite admitting that it had been "dumbed down" in some areas recently. In an interview, Gerhard stated that "the real average age [of RuneScape's players] is 16. And there's this perception that there's 8 year old boys playing the game and it's mad."
