Mark J. Sullivan is the current Director of the United States Secret Service. Sullivan succeeded W. Ralph Basham and was sworn in as the 22 Director of the Secret Service on May 31, 2006. Mark J. Sullivan is the current Director of the United States Secret Service. Sullivan succeeded W. Ralph Basham and was sworn in as the 22 Director of the Secret Service on May 31, 2006. Born in Arlington, Massachusetts, Sullivan is the oldest of six children. He attended Arlington Catholic High School and from there went on to Saint Anselm College in Goffstown, New Hampshire where he received his B.A. in criminal justice. He is married to the former Laurie Bell and has three daughters. Sullivan began his Secret Service career as a special agent assigned to the Detroit Field Office in 1983. In 1990, Sullivan began working at the Fraud Division in Washington, D.C. One year later, in 1991, Sullivan was assigned to the Presidential Protective Division. From 1997 to 1998 he was the resident agent in charge of the Columbus, Ohio, office.
