From 1 September 2009, Alan Batey took over his position as Reuss returned to the GM in the United States as a senior product development director. Australian federal minister for industry, Kim Carr, stated "Mark Reuss joins a growing cadre of global automotive executives with an intimate knowledge of the Australian car industry and its capabilities. That is a very good thing for this country [Australia]."
Mark's father was Lloyd E. Reuss, former president at GM from 1990 to 1992.
