Miller was born in New Orleans, the oldest of five children. After attending the University of Houston, Miller moved to Richmond, California and opened a small record store, No Limit Records, financing the store with money that he received as part of a medical malpractice settlement related to the death of his grandfather, Glenn Baumann.
