Matthew William Sorum (born November 19, 1960) is an American rock drummer and percussionist. Sorum is most famous for his 7-year stint in Guns N' Roses (1990–1997) and supergroup Velvet Revolver (2002–present), which is comprised in part of former Guns N' Roses members Duff McKagan (bass) and Slash (lead guitar). Matt Sorum was born Matthew William Sørum, on November 19, 1960, in the present-day city of Mission Viejo, California. His parents were of English and Norwegian descent. In his first couple of years in high school, Sorum was part of the Mission Viejo Marching Bands drum section. Sorum started out in Mission Viejo as a local hot musician in 1975.
