Matthew William Sorum (born November 19, 1960, in Mission Viejo, California) is an American hard rock drummer and percussionist. Sorum is most famous for his 7-year stint in Guns N' Roses (1990-1997). Matt Sorum was born Matthew William Sorum (Norwegian spelling Sørum), on November 19, 1960, in Mission Viejo, California. His parents were of English and Norwegian descent. In his first couple of years in high school, Sorum was part of the Mission Viejo Marching Bands drum section. Sorum started out in Mission Viejo as a local hot musician in 1975.
