The airline is a Maltese registered company founded in 1978 as part of the LAFI group of companies. It started operations in September 1979. It is owned by Libyan Arab Maltese Holding (51%), Air Malta (25%) and Libyan Arab Foreign Investment (LAFI) (24%), and has 182 employees (at March 2007).
