A right-handed batsman and a left-arm fast medium bowler, he averaged 5.54 in 94 innings with the bat, with a high score of 22. His bowling average is 276 wickets at 24.57 with a best of 9/43.He toured Pakistan with M.C.C. in 1955.Unfortunately a back injury caused his early return home and prevented him playing in 1956. in 1958 and 1959 he was professional at Bingley. In 1960 he return to the county side to take 77 wickets but then faded from the scene. Further engagements were fulfilled at Rochdale and Littleborough and then he came home to Wakefield,Brodsworth and Doncaster Town.
