Weatherly was born in New York City on July 8, 1968, and raised in Fairfield, Connecticut, by wealthy parents Patricia, a hospital administrator, and Michael Manning Weatherly, Sr. He left his college to pursue acting. His father cut him off from his inheritance when he decided to drop out of college. He also had a great passion for music, and played in a band while pursuing his acting career. He has six siblings, one brother and five sisters (one of whom is the mother of actress Alex Breckenridge), though his only full sibling is his brother Will. The rest are either half- or step-siblings, as both of his parents are married for the third time. He graduated from Brooks School in North Andover, Massachusetts, in 1986.
