He was born in New York City. On an October 3, 2008 episode of the Mo'Nique radio show, Núñez explained how his start in Hollywood began with a five-day bus ride from his home in North Carolina to Los Angeles. Having no arranged job and no friends and relatives, Núñez spent three weeks sleeping in alleys and movie theaters. His first television role came when, while riding the city bus, he learned of a nearby commercial casting call. Later that day, Núñez arrived at the casting call, borrowed a resume from another actor, auditioned and was awarded the role. He used this experience to schedule an audition for his role in Friday the 13th: A New Beginning.
